About What is the World Post Project and how does it work?
The World Post Project (or WPP, for short) is one girl's personal quest to expand both her own horizons and yours by obtaining - and posting the content of - at least 150 postcards and 150 letters from people residing in at least 150 different countries/dependent territories around the globe.

The basic idea is to get people from all over the world to write down a minimum of five things about themselves, the place they live, and/or a place they're temporarily residing in (while they vacation, study abroad, etc.) and then to have them send it to the World Post Project for posting on this blog. Why? Because...
  • There are over 7 billion people on this planet at the current point in time.
  • Those people reside in over 190 independent countries and many dependent or specially governed territories.
  • In any one person's lifetime, they will only meet the most infinitesimal amount of people in the world and see the most miniscule fraction of the globe - no matter what they do.
  • But every single person on earth has their own story: their own experiences, culture, thoughts, perceptions, beliefs, dreams, and goals. Every single place on earth has its own story: its own history, environment, accomplishments, and problems.
  • In an increasingly globalized world, the need for compassion and understanding is greater than ever. The global population is going to have to work together more than they ever have before in order to survive and prosper.
... And the only way I see for compassion and understanding to come about is through learning about other people and other places, of the world beyond what you will explore of it. The World Post Project is founded on the simple idea that you never know who could change your life, if they're only given the chance to speak.

That said, please don't feel like you can't or shouldn't participate because you don't have anything earth-shattering or inspiring to share with the world. If one of your five plus things happens to be your favorite color, that's fine. Tell us whatever you want to tell us.

About WPP's Creator
Lauren is a twenty-something resident of Long Island, New York who had the crazy idea to start this project. She hopes to be able to travel someday, as she's unable to at the moment. She thinks she was probably inspired to start this project by a lot of different things, including learning about the UNESCO World Heritage List, her experiences over the years at the holiday_wishes community, starting to study Russian in the fourth grade and other languages thereafter (none of which she's extremely fluent in, unfortunately), and tales of her late grandfather's time in the Merchant Marine. She's perhaps overly fond of chocolate, the Harry Potter series, and learning as much as her brain will allow. She also really enjoys receiving mail that isn't a bill or bank statement.
